JAVAAZ / OUR APPROACH

The Javaaz Standard

A considered approach to rough gemstones. Clear information for every offering.

The Javaaz Standard is our own assessment and documentation system for rough emeralds and peridot. It brings together the features we observe, the origin records we hold and the information we share with buyers.

From sorting a parcel to presenting an individual stone, our aim is a description that can be understood, discussed and inspected.

Javaaz assessments and records are identified separately from independent laboratory findings.

STEP 1

ASSESSMENT

Look closely. Describe carefully.

Our assessment begins with the material itself. We consider colour, transparency, weight, dimensions, form and visible inclusions or fractures.

Emerald and peridot are examined using criteria suited to each gemstone. Shared documentation keeps their descriptions consistent without treating their characteristics as identical.

Rough emerald assessment

We record the observed colour and transparency alongside crystal form, dimensions and visible internal features. The description draws attention to features a buyer may wish to examine more closely.

Rough peridot assessment

We consider colour, transparency, dimensions, shape and visible inclusions or fractures. Each stone or parcel is described through its own features and the variation present.

Our rough descriptions support inspection and discussion. They do not promise a finished gemstone's weight, grade or selling price.

STEP 2

PARCEL PREPARATION

A clear picture of the whole lot

A parcel brings several rough stones into one offering. We group material using stated criteria and describe both the shared features and the variation within the lot.

The description identifies the gemstone, total weight and relevant size information. Photographs show the offered material, with additional views where needed to explain its composition.

Selected Stones and Exceptional Stones are presentation categories for individual offerings. They sit alongside commercial parcels and are distinct from technical assessment grades.

PROVENANCE

Keep the source connected

Provenance is the recorded history of where material comes from and how it has been handled. Our records connect the source and recovery batch with the parcel or individual stone offered for sale.

When a batch is divided or material is regrouped, its references retain the connection to the source records. The locality stated to a buyer follows the information those records support.

Our emerald offering comes from Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Our peridot offering comes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

DOCUMENTATION

The details behind the description

Each offering has a reference that connects its photographs and description with the underlying record. The information below gives buyers a consistent starting point for review.

The level of detail depends on whether the offering is a parcel or an individual stone. Any limits in the available information are stated clearly.

Offering reference
The identifier for the parcel or individual stone.
Gemstone and form
The gemstone description and the condition in which the material is offered, such as rough.
Origin
The locality supported by the source records and the basis for that description.
Weight and dimensions
The total weight and relevant measurements, including the stated basis where material remains attached to rock.
Parcel composition
How the lot is grouped, relevant size information and variation within the material.
Photographs and observations
Images linked to the offering and a description of the features observed.
Treatment and testing
Known treatments, testing status and any independent report covering the material.
Sale and viewing details
The stated sale method and the arrangements for enquiries or inspection.

TREATMENTS & TESTING

State what is known

Treatment information helps a buyer understand the material being offered. We distinguish known treatments, Javaaz's own observations and independent test results.

Rough describes the form of a gemstone. It does not, by itself, establish that the stone is untreated.

Known treatment information

We disclose known treatments relevant to the offering and identify the basis of the information. A statement from a source or an internal record is distinguished from a laboratory finding.

Testing status

The description states whether the material has been independently tested and whether a report is available. Where treatment status has not been established, that uncertainty is stated.

Independent reports

Where a report is available, we identify the laboratory, report reference and the material examined. Findings are presented within the scope of that report; a result for one stone is not extended to the whole parcel.

Ask about the testing information available for the specific parcel or stone you are considering.

STEP 6

BUYER INSPECTION

Take a closer look before you decide

Use the offering reference to request the details relevant to your purchase. We can discuss additional views, available records and any independent report associated with the material.

Ask about inspection arrangements for the parcel or stone you are considering. The location, timing and conditions are agreed for the specific offering.
